The most common procedure involves custom-made trays filled with bleaching solution that fit firmly over your teeth. Because your dental hygienist the procedure, a stronger bleaching solution can be used than what's found in home kits. Another option is to get fitted for custom-made whitening trays that you can use at home.
Polishing & Stain Removal
Let's look at stain removal as the first option, which is ideal for those with extrinsic staining (stained enamel) and generally what the majority of patients have. Stain removal can be achieved during a routine hygiene appointment where the teeth are cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler and hand instruments to remove plaque deposits. The teeth are then polished for a gorgeous smile.
On the other side of the fence is whitening, and in fact, professional whitening is the only way to actually change the color of teeth. Whitening is an extremely popular treatment as patients report feeling younger, more attractive and confident.
Many people dread teeth cleanings. Between the prodding, strange noises, and occasional jaw discomfort, it’s easy to understand their apprehension. But for most, a teeth cleaning is simple and painless. Knowing exactly what is going on during the process can help ease your stress and allow you to better enjoy the minty-fresh results.
Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also reverses early decay. In children under 6 years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth, making it difficult for acids to demineralize the teeth. Fluoride also helps speed remineralization as well as disrupts acid production in already erupted teeth of both children and adults.
Some or all of the cost may be covered by dental insurance if it the patient has visible wear on their teeth from bruxism. For patient's without insurance or if your insurance does not cover your night guard, we accept many forms of payment and have financing plans available.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth- to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength and improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.
